With all the excess and then later with the declining economy into depression companies found themselves with a strong need to sell their products.  Among the products being manufactured were parts for radio.

 Many of the early stations were owned by these companies and retail stores. They began selling time on the radio for others reducing the reliance on making and selling their products, but servicing others changing their revenue flows.
